The  'Park der Gärten', 'park of the gardens'

          In fact, for the real Rhodo- and Azalea-lover,  it is THE place to see a big collection of rhododendrons and azaleas. Till some years ago it was the collection garden of the Plant Research Station in Rostrup. Then extended to a general park for the "State Garden Show of Niedersachsen in Bad Zwischenahn 2002"

          Of course a new park needs time to develop to a mature and attractive park. Flowerbeds and corners, more or less in the 'Mien Ruys" stile, with small and broader roads, with all kinds of plants. There is a restaurant and a pond with a road with all kinds of pavement to walk on blindfolded etc. etc. 

        Yet, I like the collection garden of the Plant Research Station (at the end and to the left) - with paths and lanes through old plantings of rhodos and azaleas - still the most. From 1976 (or before?) many hundreds of them were planted, partially  under  trees, mostly with the names. A real eldorado for those who want to admire the beauty of them! Very much recommended!!

         The collection of rhodos is really big, but certainly also of the decideous azaleas. Above and below you see quite a few beauties of them. Also less known ones, which are hard to obtain. Unfortunately! In the new part of the park are fields with long rows of new planted azaleas, but for the public it is unclear what to do with it.  I went through these rows to make pictures, but this will not be the meaning of it. Many names are hard to read. They should really do something about it. May be lack of money.....

           As said before, in the old part, -at the end left -  a large collection of rhodos and azaleas. Also old varieties, all together at least 2.000 different ones! Where can you find such a collection?!! But also conifers and many heather varieties are planted here. And on the ground of the adjacent Research Station a lot of research is still done .            For those who want to make photographs, the best time is a work-day, and not to warm and sunny weather. And take your time, because you can take many, many pictures! Possibly enjoying the fine special music, you can here at some "music-rest-places" under the trees.
