New Hybrids 2003-2004

uncertain cross, may be with R. arborescens

Unfortunately 2003 was not a very fruitful year for my hybridizing. In a field with selected seedlings there were not many exciting new hybrids. Also the bad weathr with a lot of rain and wind changed by bright sunlight, played a bad role. Well, this just can happen. May be next year better. Keep smiling....
Some further crossed new hybrids wilth seedlings from Fred Minch did quite well with some nice results.

a number of evergreen azalea crosses

New hybrids of evergreen azaleas were reasonable. My goal was to get double bicolor flowers. Double yes, but not bicolor. Just see some images of them below.
Now I am writing this on May 20, there is something more on the way to come. I hope there will still be some goodies. And yes, I see some good real yellow flowers on a R. brachycarpum cross, Z. 02-27. And on a test-field in the backyard I see a hybrid with yellow flowers, hose-in-hose. I like these 'petticoats'. Unfortunately the flowers are dirty because of the rain. I write 'real yellow', because there are so many rhodos called yellow, but it is not more than creamy.
I hope you enjoy the pictures.
